I’ve had the pleasure of using Yokohama’s famous Advan Sport V105 tires on my 2018 Mustang GT for just over a month now. Having used them in various road conditions and surfaces, I can offer a well rounded opinion based on all my experience with High Performance Street tires.
- Dry handling
Yokohama’s Advan Sport V105 tires provide an instant supply of traction and grip. During cornering, the grip given by the tire stays consistent throughout the corner. The case is the same with high-speed cornerning, the tires are very composed and you can immediately feel the grip and stability they offer. Traction out of the corners is also important, and the Advan Sport V105 tires definitely deliver in this aspect as well. The tire compound is compliant at all speeds, and gives you grip regardless of the temperature.
- Wet handling
As we enter rainy season in Thailand, a crucial factor for all tires will be wet handling, and how well the tire can evacuate water from the tread. This has been an issue for me because I run a wide tire (F275 / R295), and until now, I’ve always had a problem with aquaplaning – especially on concrete roads. Now however, I’m very happy to say that these Advan Sport V105 tires evacuate water from the tread better than its commercial competitors. I have stability and a huge increase in grip in wet conditions. I used to have a lot of problems on concrete motorways, but now I feel connected to the road despite how wet it is. This confidence and predictability in the wet is so important for an enjoyable and safe driving experience, and the wet handling is truly what impressed me most about this tire.
- Comfort
A large part of Yokohama’s tire development goes into performance. With the level of performance these tires offer, you wouldn’t expect them to take the ‘comfort’ factor into much account – but they do. Yokohama’s Advan Sport V105 tires are supremely quiet during normal day-to-day and motorway driving. Yokohama has been able to provide a high-performance tire without the heightened road noise which is customary to this type of tire.
- Conclusion
After using the Yokohama Advan Sport V105 tires for some time now and being able to truly test their abilities, I can confidently call this tire the best all-round High Performance Street tire I have ever used. Yokohama combines semi-slick grip levels in the dry, with all-terrain grip levels in the wet, and with masterful tire construction they have also reduced road noise to compliment the driving experience further. This tire ticks all the boxes, regardless of the driving conditions.
